The Mary Wallopers

The Mary Wallopers play Irish folk the way Irish folk should sound: raw, uplifting, sometimes melancholic, often upbeat. And delightfully rebellious, to boot. The six musicians can’t stand being stereotyped—just look up the meaning of the album title “Paddywhackery”—and won’t let anyone tell them what peace-loving statements they can or can’t make. But don’t expect any rousing speeches or finger-wagging lectures. The Hendy brothers and their four bandmates let their traditional instruments and amazing vocal harmonies do the talking, making Pinkpop steam and sway like one big, overflowing pub.
