The Amsterdam rapper Donnie has made a rapid ascent to the top of the Dutch scene. Through his creative wordplay and beats, produced by Bas Bron, he’s appealed to the same group of fans as his popular source of inspiration De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig. His debut album Mannelogie became one of the most talked-about hip-hop releases of 2015, thanks in part to tracks such as Batras and Wubbo Ockels. Three years later, the track Snelle Planga went viral with nearly 2 million streams, with Donnie demonstrating just what a hypemeister he is. In that same year, 2018, he also brought the house down at Pinkpop. Since then, his star has only ascended further, also through hits with other artists, such as Bon Gepakt with René Froger and Vanavond (Uit M’n Bol) with Kris Kross Amsterdam and Tino Martin. You can trust the guy they call ‘Leipie van het Plein’ (which translates to ‘the nutter from the square’) to get a true party vibe going in the crowd.
