At the age of 17, J. Balvin swapped the drug-fuelled violence of Medellin in Colombia for study in the US. Enriched by a lot of life experience, he returned home and his musical career really started to take off. He broke through with 6 AM and his innovative reggaeton sound attracted the attention of the likes of Pitbull, with whom he recorded the hit Hey Ma, and Pharrell Williams, who collaborated on Energía – the album that netted J. Balvin a Latin Grammy. His Spanish-language reggaeton is now garnering fame worldwide. Muy caliente!
