25-year-old Izzy Bizu grew up in the Southwest of London, to a soundtrack provided by her British father and Ethiopian mother of Ella Fitzgerald’s vocal jazz, the smouldering soul of Bettye Swann and the foot-stomping funk of James Brown. No wonder then that these three genres form the basis of her own scintillating fusion sound, with marvellously poppy vocal lines and infectious echoes of Whitney Houston, Amy Winehouse, Motown, hip-hop, electro, disco, spontaneous raves and warehouse parties.
